AT HOME WITH: JADE GILLETT
Name: Jade Gillett
Profession: Creative Director & founder, Rainbow Studios
Where you live: Sydney, AU
Where you’re from: London, UK
Q. Where did you sleep last night?
A. My place – we live in Darlinghurst, right on the cusp of the city and Rushcutters bay. It's close I can walk to the city as well as the park for Button, our 8 month old Kelpie/boarder collie.
Q. How did you start Rainbow Studios?
A. After 8 years of working in the advertising/media industry, Covid came around and forced a redundancy which was the best thing to ever happen to me. It allowed me to have the time to build a brand from the ground up with Goldie and our dream of owning our own creative space came to reality. We took the scray steps of renovating and building RAINBOW STUDIOS during lockdown and opened our doors to the world as soon as the restrictions were lifted.
It all snowballed from there, and we now offer a revolving door of exhibitions and collaborations, from anything from custom made fine jewellery, art, ceramics, and home goods. We are also working on some very exciting product launches this year that will fall under the RAINBOW STUDIOS brand so watch this space!
Q. Are you a morning or night person?
A. Morning - get up around 6 for a walk and run with button every morning! She’s definitely the star, all the locals know her by name. I start work while sipping on my morning coffee and surprise myself with how much I can get done before midday!
Q. What are your bed time non negotiables?
A. Owning a growing business, every day is so different. I try and keep a routine – winding down with dinner, a show to try and relax, and by then I’m so exhausted I head straight to bed.
Q. What’s your favourite city to wake up in?
A. Honestly I’d say Sydney- its where my business, partner and puppy are – and we love our lifestyle here. We’re very lucky.
Q. In your fridge, what will you always find?
A. Hummus & coconut water
Q. What’s an indulgence you would never go without?
A. I do love my ice cream! We will walk to Messina a few times a week. Its dangerous it being so close!
Q. Any books your reading at the moment?
A. Be bold by Alexis Fernandez-Preiksa, who's a friend of mine. She’s just published it and I’m super excited to read it.
